A Fontana couple, are charged with seven felony counts of allowing their five vicious pit-bull dogs to roam free and cause severe bodily injury to three small children. A preliminary hearing on June 2 will determine if the couple should stand trial.
A woman and her four children were taking a walk near the railroad tracks in Fontana in February when the dogs attacked three of the children. The dogs dug under a fence and got out. A 5-year old girl, suffered broken ribs, a punctured lung, and bites on her arms, legs, neck and face. She was placed on life support for a short time and then released from the hospital. Her 6-year old brother needed over 200 stitches for leg wounds while their 7-year old sister, required 20 stitches for leg wounds.
A young neighborhood boy tried to help by throwing rocks at the dogs. Police shot and killed one of the dogs and the other four were put to sleep. What a sad story. People need to make sure their dogs, especially potentially dangerous ones, are secure in their yard.

The families in Moreno Valley are grieving the loss of their popular assistant football coach and his family. The coach and his family died recently when their car exploded into flames on the 15 Freeway in Ontario after being wedged between two trucks. The family of four was on their way to get pizza.
According to California Highway Patrol, six vehicles were involved in the accident. No one else was injured. The cause of this fatal accident is being investigated. My sympathies go out to the family and friends of these victims.

For those of you who travel to Big Bear Lake, you know that Highway 38 is the most recommended road to use. The road has the fewest curves and offers beautiful scenery. However, automobiles and trucks are not the only vehicles that use it – bicyclists use it also.
The speed limit is 55 mph and bikes cannot go that fast. There used to be signs at the bottom of the hill that read, “Pedestrians, Bicycles, Motorized Bicycles, Non-Motorized Traffic is Prohibited.” After a forest fire years ago, the signs were removed and never replaced. This makes for a dangerous situation when there are bikes riding along the highway and cars stuck behind them.
Common sense says that a vehicle that cannot go as fast as the speed limit should not be allowed on a single lane highway. Until that is changed, I hope those of you on that road will take a deep breathe and be patient for the bikers – learn how to share the road!

Here is a very sad news report. Not too long ago, a 19-year old San Bernardino, man crashed his truck through a brick wall and into a house, killing a 45-year old deaf woman, who lived there. The truck pinned her against the stove. Reports said that the young man might have been suicidal. The deaf woman sustained massive injuries and died shortly after at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Witnesses who saw this happen said the man did not attempt to slow down. He, too, was taken to Loma Linda Medical Center; police arrested him on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter. Even though there was beer in his vehicle, police did not think he was under the influence of alcohol.
I feel very badly for deaf woman and her family and friends.

California has two hit and run offenses – misdemeanor and felony. It is a misdemeanor if you leave the scene, you do not identify yourself and/or you damage another person’s property. The charge changes to felony if you injure someone during the accident.
California hit and run laws apply in all hit and run accidents. It does not matter which individual is responsible, the amount of damage incurred, or the severity of the injuries. If convicted, you may face up to 6 months in a county jail, up to 3 years of probation, up to $1,000 in fines, restitution to the property-damaged victim and/or 2 points on your driving record. The penalties could be less if it is a first-time offense.

A couple, a woman and a man of Tennessee, on a motorcycle was struck by a Toyota in Old Town Victorville recently. The man in the Toyota may have suffered a diabetic episode, causing the crash. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the driver continued to drive on the wrong side of the street and crashed into another Toyota and then a truck. He had to be cut out of his vehicle by the San Bernardino County Fire Paramedics. He was also taken to a local hospital.
Victorville’s Major Accident Investigation Team is looking into the accident.

Today, many people take their dogs to a dog park for exercise and socialization. California dog owners are responsible for the actions of their dog. Most dog bites occur quickly and without warning.
If a dog bites you, you have legal rights to be compensated for your injuries by the owner of the dog. Chances are the owner is covered for your injuries and pain and suffering under their homeowner’s insurance policy.
If you are bitten by a dog, it is important for you to consult an experienced Personal Injury attorney so you can recover your damages.
