A man turning left onto an onramp to the northbound Interstate 15 in Victorville the other morning was struck by a woman who did not stop for a red light.  The impact caused the man’s vehicle to split in two.  Both drivers were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Victorville Police are investigating the accident, but it appears that the woman who ran the red light is at fault.  According to California Vehicle Code Section 21453(a), “A driver facing a circular red signal shall stop at the limit line before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then before entering the intersection, and shall remain stopped until an indication to proceed is shown.”

If you are injured by a driver who did not stop for a red light, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will investigate to determine if you are entitled to compensation by the negligent party for your injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

BMW of North America is recalling approximately 89,000 Mini Cooper vehicles because of a water pump malfunction that could cause a fire.

Apparently the water pump that cools the turbocharger in some of the vehicles has a circuit board that can malfunction, causing the vehicle to overheat.  The recall includes 2007-2011 models of the Mini Cooper S, 2008-2011 Cooper S Clubman, 2009-2011 Cooper S Convertible and 2011 Cooper S Countryman.  In addition, it includes the 2009-2011 models of the Mini JCW, JCW Clubman and JCW Convertible.

If you have one of these vehicles and are injured because of a manufacturer’s defect, contact a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has been successful in product liability cases – an attorney who will fight for your legal rights.

Placing your loved one in a San Bernardino nursing home or extended care facility is probably one of the most difficult choices you will ever make.  Once you decide on a facility, you hope that it will provide a safe environment and the most nurturing care possible – you are placing your loved one in the hands of their staff.

Placing your trust in the facility also means you do not want to get a phone call that tells you there was an accident or your loved one was taken to the emergency room.  What about if you see bedsores on your family member and are told the staff doesn’t know how they happened.  Do you feel betrayed?

Keep your eyes open for possible signs of abuse and neglect.  Look for the following:

·     Failure to bathe patients

·     Failure to turn or move immobile patients – look for bedsores, infections

·     Unexplained falls

·     Medication problems

·     Withdrawal – not much talking

·     Does the staff supervise each patient?

·     Do patients wander away?

There are strict laws that protect the safety and welfare of nursing home residents.

However, it is unfortunate that these residents do not always receive appropriate care and the results can be severe.  If a family member has suffered from nursing home abuse or neglect, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will fight for the justice and compensation that your family member deserves.  No one deserves to be abused or neglected.

California law says that a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if his or her blood alcohol content is .08% or higher.  This applies to the use of drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, or even prescription drugs.  A driver who drives drunk is considered negligent; he or she chooses to put other drivers at risk.

The bottom line is intoxication by any means can cause accidents and severe personal injuries.  Motorists and pedestrians injured by intoxicated drivers have legal rights against the negligent driver and oftentimes the establishment that served the drunk driver the alcohol.

A drunk-driving accident can cause emotional trauma to you.  If you are a victim of a drunk driver, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will aggressively pursue compensation for your injuries.

Did you know that your insurance company offers underinsured motorist coverage?  What is that, you ask?  California law requires all drivers to carry at least a minimal amount of liability insurance in order to operate a vehicle legally.  However, not all drivers comply with this law.

Underinsured motorist coverage is an option and protection offered to you that covers you for property damage and bodily injury caused by another motorist who does not have sufficient coverage to pay for the damages he or she caused to you.  The insurance compensates you for the difference between the injury suffered and the liability covered by the at-fault driver’s insurance company.

If you suffered a serious injury in an accident and you have concerns that the responsible party does not have enough liability insurance to cover your damages, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has the answers you need to move forward with assisting you on your possible underinsured motorist claim.

A 26-year old man was killed in Rancho Cucamonga when a pickup truck ran into him.  The driver was seen walking away from the victim and then driving away without reporting the accident.  Police are looking for the driver.

California Vehicle Code Section 20001(a) states, “The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident.”

I would advise them to contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who can investigate this hit-and-run accident for them and make sure their legal rights are protected.

Have you noticed a change in driving behavior of one of your senior relatives?  The number of drivers over the age of 70 has increased over the years.

Just because a driver is over 70 years old, doesn’t mean that he or she should stop driving – some are better drivers than their younger counterparts.  However, keep your eyes open for warning signs that include:

·     Trouble making left-hand turns

·     Driving in the wrong lane of traffic

·     Stopping in traffic for no apparent reason

·     Vehicle dents that were not there earlier

Making a mistake happens to everyone, but frequent mistakes could mean trouble.  If you have concerns that it’s time for your loved one to stop driving, sit down and discuss it with him or her in a non-threatening and thoughtful manner.

If you are involved in an accident with a senior or anyone at any age and you are injured, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will make sure you are compensated for your injuries and expenses.

According to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s office, a 19-year old man lost control of his vehicle near Barstow over the weekend, resulting in his death.

After losing control, his vehicle crossed the center divider and literally flew into the air, striking the side of a tractor trailer truck.  When the car flipped, the man was thrown from his vehicle; officers said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

There were three passengers in the vehicle that suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

San Bernardino County has many areas that are perfect for dirt-biking riding.  Dirt bike accidents are common in San Bernardino and you cannot prepare enough for one.  They are built for power and speed, as well as to handle rugged terrain, but they are also relatively light and can be difficult to ride in certain environments.  The smallest error by a driver can lead to disaster.

There are ways to make your dirt bike endure an accident.  They include:

·         Make sure your bike is equipped with durable parts in case of a crash

·         Make sure your bike is equipped with a good brake snake in order to keep your foot controls in good working condition

·         Make sure all parts are in good-working condition

·         Have the proper protective gear, such as a dirt bike helmet

There is a high risk involved in participating in off-road motorcycle sports, which include severe head injuries – that is why a helmet is essential.

The year ended fatally for one San Bernardino County dirt biker racer.  A 47-year old racer lost control on a curve and flew over the handlebars.  He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

If you or a loved one is injured in a dirt bike accident, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will pursue damages for you, including medical expenses, lost income and pain and suffering.
