Many commuters were late for work the other day when a big-rig accident in Montclair caused a traffic nightmare on Interstate 10.

It began when a driver of a passenger vehicle lost control for unknown reasons and crashed into the big-rig.  The big-rig driver swerved to the left of the road and crashed into another vehicle, causing both vehicles to slam into the center divider.  The impact caused the big-rig’s diesel tank to rupture, causing the semi to catch on fire.  It took firefighters over an hour to extinguish the flames.

The rig-rig driver and one of the other drivers were taken by air to nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Crews used a crane to upright the big-rig while Hazmat personnel cleaned up the spilled fuel on the ground.

The headlines are filled with horrific big-rig accidents every day.  Many of them have resulted from fatigued or overworked drivers – some actually falling asleep behind the wheel.

Because truck drivers drive too many hours in a day, they tend to be overtired, causing them to also become negligent in their driving and driving in violation of a federal hours-of-service regulation.  Unrealistic expectations have caused thousands of truckers to lose control, causing deaths of innocent people.

Drivers in California, along with all states, must follow minimum rest and maximum work requirements every day in a specific work period.  Even with specific rules, truckers can work up to 70 hours a week in order to ensure their cargo reaches the destination on time.

California law requires all truck drivers to follow:

·     Driving a maximum of 11 consecutive hours at one time

·     A maximum of 14 consecutive on-duty hours

·     A minimum of 10 consecutive off-duty hours between driving shift

If you are involved in an accident with an overtired or negligent trucker, contact a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has handled successful cases involving truck drivers.

A trucker involved in a chain-reaction accident on Interstate 15 last year will begin a nine-month jail sentence this month after pleading guilty to four misdemeanor counts of vehicular manslaughter.

The accident took place when an SUV with a family of four was stuck between two tractor-trailer trucks in stop-and-go traffic.  The crash caused one of the trucks and the SUV to be engulfed in flames, killing the entire family.

The trucker said the crash happened so quickly; he had no time to do anything to avoid it due to the freeway construction all around him.  He stated that he was not on his cell phone and he was not on drugs.  He suffered burns to his hands, arm and face while trying to save one of the passengers of the SUV.

If a family member is killed in an accident as a result of a negligent driver, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will investigate your case to determine if you are entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit and receive compensation for your loss and expenses.

Highway 38 in San Bernardino County will remain closed for a few days while hazardous materials crews clean up dirt contaminated by a 7,000-gallon fuel spill.

Reports indicate that a tractor-trailer carrying close to 10,000 gallons of fuel overturned and ruptured, spilling fuel all over the road and surrounding areas.  The HazMat team was able to siphon several thousands of fuel, but approximately 4,000 gallons seeped about 20 feet into the ground – causing fumes to rise into the air.  Firefighters placed foam on top of the area to keep the fumes from rising.

Officials are investigating to determine what caused the tractor-trailer to overturn - leaving fuel and fumes in the area.  Spilled hazardous materials form an overturned truck may cause, not only severe injuries to an individual involved in an accident, but they also pose a severe risk of environmental and property damage to the surrounding area.

If you are injured because of a hazardous oil spill, contact a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has dealt with cases involving hazardous materials and will discuss your potential rights concerning your personal injury or property damage.

When an individual is involved in a car accident, he or she could be seriously injured.  Just imagine the outcome when that individual is involved in a truck accident that weighs more than ten times the amount of an automobile.  Did you know that there is a truck accident every 20 minutes or less in the United States?

The amount of truck accidents in California is on the rise.  Companies are hiring drivers that are overworked or exhausted from long hauls.  There are cases when trucking companies do not have the money to make sure the trucks are in good working conditions and a driver will leave with faulty parts in his or her truck.

Are you aware that some truckers work over 12 hours a day?  Some take drugs to stay awake, which can cause them to lose control of the vehicle.

If you are involved in an accident with a truck, contact a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has been successful in truck-related accidents to see if you are entitled to compensation for your injuries, damages and expenses.

A 53-year old big-rig driver from Adelanto was killed when his truck hit a concrete pillar on Highway 99 in Fresno recently.

A 41-year old passenger suffered minor injuries.  Investigators are trying to determine what caused this man’s death; it appears he did not die from injuries sustained from the accident.

The impact caused a fuel tank on the big-rig to rupture and leak fuel on the shoulder of the road.  The road was closed for more than two hours while the fuel was cleaned up.

If you are a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in an accident and you are injured, you would be wise to contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will determine if you are entitled to compensation for your injuries and medical
