A Dodge SRT vehicle crossed the center divider on Highway 18 the other day, crashing head-on into a Nissan Sentra, seriously injuring the driver, and killing a 57-year old passenger. A third vehicle, traveling about 40 feet behind the Nissan, could not stop fast enough to avoid the Nissan, according to San Bernardino Police. The driver of the third car and his wife were not injured, although their vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage.
The driver of the Dodge SRT, and his passenger, were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
According to authorities, The driver of the Dodge SRT is either facing felony or misdemeanor manslaughter charges. It is considered felony charges if the District Attorney can prove gross negligence on his part. Authorities are certain reckless driving was involved because of excessive speed, but are not sure if street racing was involved.
