A 23-year old man riding his bike near Big Bear Lake the other evening lost control of it, causing him to veer off the road and crash into a rock.
Apparently he crashed earlier in the afternoon, but wasn’t discovered until several hours later. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fatal accident is under investigation to determine what caused him to lose control of his bicycle. Officers are checking to see if something in the road caused this accident or if the biker was negligent.
I suggest the family check with an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney to investigate the accident for them.

A 60-year old bicyclist died two weeks after being hit by a vehicle in Ontario. The man was attempting to cross a major intersection when a Volkswagen struck him.
The police are investigating to determine who was at fault. They are checking to see if the driver of the vehicle was negligent in any way, such as driving under the influence or speeding. California Highway Patrol records show that a few years ago, 27 people were injured in bike accidents in Ontario and bike accidents claimed the lives of eight people in San Bernardino County.
California Vehicle Code Section 21650 states, “Upon all highways a vehicle shall be driven upon the right half of the roadway.” According to Subsection (g), “This section does not prohibit the operation of bicycles on any shoulder or a highway, on any sidewalk, on any bicycle path within a highway, or along any crosswalk or bicycle path crossing, where the operation is not otherwise prohibited by this code or local ordinance.”
I would suggest that the family of the bicyclist contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney to discuss their options. If the auto driver is found to be at fault, he or she could be liable for the man’s wrongful death and your attorney will make sure he or she is held accountable. The family may be liable for compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs and any costs associated with the death.

It was just about a year ago when a Toyota driver, fleeing from a car burglary in San Bernardino, crashed into a 19-year old bicyclist killing him and critically injuring his 15-year old brother? Well, it is back in the news. The man also attempted to steal a car stereo from a vehicle when he returned a DVD but the owner came out.
The man is going to trial on murder charges. He has entered a formal plea on felony charges of murder, second-degree burglary of the vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and child abuse because the young daughter was in the car.
After crashing into the two brothers, the driver slowed down but continued driving – never stopping to help. The driver’s girlfriend and young daughter were in the car with him. According to her testimony, she urged him to stop, but he would not listen. Instead, he took her and their daughter home and then had the broken windshield of the Toyota repaired.

Here’s hoping that 2011 brings less accidents on our roadways. The following are some helpful tips to remember. First, always allow faster traffic to pass when it is safe to do so; avoid blocking the road. Second, pay attention to parked cars. Not all parked cars are empty – drivers may pull out in front of you or open a door in your path. Finally, as you approach intersections, pay attention to cars all around you, especially those turning left.
Left-hand turns are the most frequent motorist-caused bike accidents, followed by right hooks.
Stay tuned for more tips throughout the year. In the meantime, drive safe because the life you save may be your own.

The California Highway Patrol reported that a 44-year old man from Rancho Cucamonga riding his bicycle on Glendora Mountain Road recently crashed into a Toyota Land Cruiser driven by a 56-year old man.
The bicyclist was traveling at about 30 mph while the Toyota was going about 20 mph when they both approached a blind curve in the road. The cyclist was unable to negotiate the curve and swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting the Toyota head-on. He was taken to USC Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota was not hurt.
California Highway Patrol is investigating the scene of the fatal accident to determine what happened.

A man riding a bicycle along Highway 189 in Crestline the other evening became a victim of a disabling traffic accident. As the 32-year old man was peddling away on a road without a shoulder, a pickup truck came up behind him honking his horn and flashing his lights. The bicyclist had no place to pull over and sped up; the truck stayed on his tail.
The bicyclist came to a curve and tried to slow down, but his brakes locked up and he was thrown off the bike. The accident caused him to break his collar bone in two places. In addition, he received a gash above his eye, which required nine stitches. The bike was damaged. The trucker did not stop. Moments later a motorist stopped and offered the man his cell phone.
Crest Forest Fire paramedics and deputies from the Sheriff’s department were on the scene. The bicyclist was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. It was determined that he might need surgery to repair his clavicle. According to California Highway Patrol, the truck driver’s actions did not constitute a chargeable crime. I hope the bicyclist contacts an experienced Personal Injury attorney who will discuss his options with him and hopefully get him some compensation for his medical expenses and loss of wages.

A woman driving on the eastside of Highway 247 the other night hit and killed a young man riding his bike with his friend next to him. For unknown reasons, the bicyclist was dressed in dark clothing and had no lights on his bike. The other bicyclist was not hurt and neither was the driver of the car.
Paramedics pronounced the young man dead at the scene. California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the accident – they do not believe alcohol was a factor. I would suggest the family seek the advice of an experienced Personal Injury attorney to determine their next steps. My prayers are with the family of this young man.

A bicyclist, was killed by a hit-and-run driver recently. However, the driver left a trail of car fluid which led police to a Jack-in-the-Box restaurant close by. After looking at the Jack-in-the Box video, police were able to identify him through his license plate number and the damage on his vehicle.
By the time police saw the video, the 29-year old driver was gone. The driver is currently on probation for a federal robbery charge.
Police have not been able to find him and are asking for help from the public. He is said to be driving a green 1997 Honda Civic with front-end damage. If spotted, please call San Bernardino Police Detective at 909-384-5664.
My sincere condolences go out to the family of the bicyclist.

Motor Vehicle Code 21228 states, “Bicyclists and scooter enthusiasts are legally required to ride inside bike lanes when lanes are available.” This law refers to scooters that travel less than 30 mph.
Always proceed with caution when riding in a bike lane; watch for slower moving individuals. Unfortunately, some car owners park in a bike lane. If you are riding a bike or scooter in a bike lane and a parked car is blocking your way, be careful when you ride around it – watch for oncoming cars. Make sure you are traveling in the same direction as other vehicles. Be familiar with the “Rules of the Road”.
If you are traveling in a bike lane and involved in an accident, contact an experienced Personal Injury Attorney who will investigate the accident for you.
