When an individual is involved in a car accident, he or she could be seriously injured. Just imagine the outcome when that individual is involved in a truck accident that weighs more than ten times the amount of an automobile. Did you know that there is a truck accident every 20 minutes or less in the United States?
The amount of truck accidents in California is on the rise. Companies are hiring drivers that are overworked or exhausted from long hauls. There are cases when trucking companies do not have the money to make sure the trucks are in good working conditions and a driver will leave with faulty parts in his or her truck.
Are you aware that some truckers work over 12 hours a day? Some take drugs to stay awake, which can cause them to lose control of the vehicle.
If you are involved in an accident with a truck, contact a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has been successful in truck-related accidents to see if you are entitled to compensation for your injuries, damages and expenses.

Those of you out in the ocean this past weekend enjoying the beautiful weather might have seen the coast guard’s boat patrolling.
California and Federal marine law enforcement officers were out looking for boaters who may have had too much to drink. They were prepared to give possible drunken boaters a breathalyzer test and some boater education materials. In California, boating under the influence of alcohol is a crime which carries severe penalties that include jail and fines.
If a boater was caught with a blood alcohol level of more than the legal limit of 0.08%, they will face severe penalties. The end of June begins the boating season. Alcohol is more hazardous on the water than on land – the motion, engine noise and vibration accelerate a drinker’s impairment.
Last year, more than 300 arrests were made to boaters under the influence and over 4,000 citations were handed out. If you are facing a charge of boating while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you are facing serious consequences. I suggest you contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has been successful in defending these types of cases.

With the weather getting warmer, more and more adults are taking walks with their children. There is nothing that can ruin a summertime walk like a child getting bitten by the neighbor’s dog. California’s dog bite law imposes strict liability on the dog’s owner.
California Civil Code Section 3342 states, “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness. A person is lawfully upon the private property of such owner within the meaning of this section when he is on such property in the performance of any duty imposed upon him by the laws of this state or by the laws or postal regulations of the United States, or when he is on such property upon the invitation, express or implied, of the owner”.
Some children love to pet dogs. Even if your dog is obedient and listens to your every command, your dog should be on a leash if it is outside where a child can come up to pet it. Parents should tell their children not to touch a dog unless told it is okay, but some children are fast when they see a cute, little dog.
If your dog injures a child or an adult, you may be required to pay for medical bills. If this is the case, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney to find out your options and next steps.

With summer quickly approaching, California beaches will soon host many bonfires. Bonfires are very common and a good way to end a nice day on the beach with family and friends.
Here’s a tip for you beachgoers. Learn how to put the fire out properly. In many instances, the fire is put out by throwing sand on it. Unfortunately by doing this, you can cause a serious injury. By pouring sand on the fire, the visual danger of the fire may be masked, but the heat underneath is intensified. This type of fire can remain dangerous for more than 24 hours, especially to unsuspecting children.
Because the naked eye cannot detect that the pit is a smoldering accident waiting to happen, too many children are the victims of serious burn injuries. Medical Centers see many 2nd and 3rd degree victims each year. Ongoing burn treatment care is painful; some patients need to be sedated in order to be treated.
These injuries could have been prevented. If you choose to sit near a fire pit while on the beach, don’t take any chances, especially if there are children with you – pout a bucket of water on it as soon as you get there. If you make a bonfire, pour water on it when you leave; the embers can remain hot and dangerous for a very long time.
Keep your family safe and keep the families that arrive after you just as safe.

Now that the warm weather is on its way, more and more people will be taking their boats out for a relaxing day on the lake – perhaps Big Bear Lake. Others, because of the economy and high gas prices, will remain at home.
California has the third highest number of registered boats in the United States. This is not surprising since California has approximately ten thousand miles of shoreline. Statistics show that a substantial number of boating accidents, including injuries and fatalities happened in the Inland Empire – more than 60%.
Even though the operator of the boat is responsible for his or her actions, the most common cause of boating accidents is operator negligence. Not paying attention or unsafe speeds can lead to accidents with other boats or even individuals on jet skis or wave runners – not to mention swimmers. In addition, alcohol is a common cause of boating fatalities.
If you are injured due to the negligence of a boat operator, you may be able to file a claim against the operator for your injuries and/or damages. Contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney to see if you can seek financial recovery.

The number of dog bite injuries in California is on the rise. Unfortunately, more than half of the victims are children.
A dog bite incident can be very physical and emotional to the victim because sometimes the fracture, deep cut or rupture on the body will require reconstructive surgery that takes years to heal. In the case of a child, and sometimes and adult, the individual will remain in a constant state of paranoia and stress. In a worst-case scenario it causes death.
Treating a dog bite can be very expensive for the victim and his or her family. The owner of the dog should pay for these. If you or your child is bitten by a dog, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney for advice and professional help. The attorney will investigate the incident to determine if the dog owner is liable for your medical bills, physical and emotional injuries and any loss of income involved. He or she will make sure you receive a fair and full compensation for your expenses. Don’t wait to see an attorney; California law has a statute of limitations to claim your losses.

Here’s hoping that 2011 brings less accidents on our roadways. The following are some helpful tips to remember. First, always allow faster traffic to pass when it is safe to do so; avoid blocking the road. Second, pay attention to parked cars. Not all parked cars are empty – drivers may pull out in front of you or open a door in your path. Finally, as you approach intersections, pay attention to cars all around you, especially those turning left.
Left-hand turns are the most frequent motorist-caused bike accidents, followed by right hooks.
Stay tuned for more tips throughout the year. In the meantime, drive safe because the life you save may be your own.

A driver making a left-hand turn in Victorville the other day apparently did not see a 35-year old motorcyclist close by. The motorcyclist was hit; he died at the scene.
Police are investigating to determine what happened. I would advise the family to contact a skilled Personal Injury Attorney in the area to see what their options are.

In a recent news article The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that traffic deaths linked to distracted driving fell 6% compared to the previous year. There were 5,474 deaths in 2009 compared to 5,838 the year before.
The year 2009 saw the lowest fatality and injury rates – fatalities declined in all categories, including motorcycles. The Department of Transportation reported, “America’s roads are the safest they’ve ever been. But they must be safer. And we will not rest until they are.”
In California, texting and talking on a phone without a handset device is illegal while driving. The Auto Club recently reported that texting while at the wheel has doubled since California banned this action almost two years ago.

A 24-year old woman participating in the Mario Andretti Driving Experience in Fontana recently crashed into a wall at a high speed, causing her auto to overturn. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she died. The “Experience” allow drivers to drive a race car with 600 horsepower for eight minutes, reaching speeds up to 160 mph.
This turned out to be a very sad experience for this young woman.
