Slip or fall accidents can happen anywhere – on the sidewalk, in a parking lot, on a flight of stairs, on an escalator, or in a grocery store; they are very common.  An owner’s negligence may cause a dangerous condition, such as a wet floor, inadequate lighting, broken stairs or an obstacle on the floor.

Injuries that occur from a slip or a fall accident can be severe; they include, but are not limited to, broken bones, a spinal injury or a concussion.

If you were hurt as a result of a slip or a fall on another person’s property, you may be eligible for compensation.  It is the responsibility of the owner to keep his or her property safe.  Contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will help you recover compensation for your injuries, expenses, and pain and suffering.

Summer is here and more people are out walking.  Here are some safety tips to keep in mind when taking a walk.  Always walk on a sidewalk.  When one is not available, walk on the left-hand side of the road – facing traffic.  Another thing to remember is obey traffic signals.  Cross when the signal light is red and get to the other side of the street before the light changes to green.  Make sure oncoming traffic can stop safely before you step into the street.  Just because pedestrians have the right-of-way, does not mean you can cross the street whenever or wherever you want.  If you are walking at night, wear light-colored clothing so you can be seen – such as reflective patches or carry a flashlight.

By following these simple rules, you are bound to have a safe and enjoyable walk – whether it is for exercise or pleasure.

An area like Lake Arrowhead has many tourist attractions and tourists; it also has a lot of snow and ice.  Because of all this snow and ice, business owners must make sure their sidewalks and parking lots are clear and safe so pedestrians do not slip and fall.

The Salt Institute, located in Alexandria, Virginia conducted a survey several years ago with county and municipal agencies regarding their sidewalk snow clearing practices.  The study showed that 83% of the agencies had policies requiring business owners to remove snow and ice “within 24 hours of the end of the snowstorm.”  If the business owner did not comply, their penalties would range from a ticket to misdemeanors punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or fines of up to $500.

Of course, if a pedestrian slipped and fell, the business owner could face a lawsuit alleging negligence.  If you have fallen in front of a business that neglected to remove the snow and/or ice from in front of their store, I would suggest you contact an experienced Personal Injury attorney who will know California laws and take the required actions against this business owner on your behalf.
