A 51-year old father and his 31-year old son, were killed the other evening when, the father who was speeding through a residential area, lost control and crashed into a tree and parked vehicle. The San Bernardino County coroner’s office said they both died at the scene.
The Redlands Police Department is investigating the accident to see why the father lost control. My condolences go out to the family of this father and son.
Those enjoying the lovely climate in Lake Havasu recently got more than they bargained for. A 29-year old Huntington Beach man, was enjoying the water by sitting in an inner tube and being pulled by a boat. Something caused him to fall out of the tube. While waiting for the boat to return and pick him up, another boat, traveling about 40 mph hit him.
The boat fled down the lake without stopping. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is asking any witnesses to this incident to come forward by calling the Colorado River Sheriff’s Station at 760-326-9200. The boat is described as red, about 30 feet long with white stripes. The driver is a heavy-set man with a mustache, wearing a baseball cap. A blond-haired woman was a passenger.
Paramedics took the man to Havasu Landing Marina, where he was pronounced dead. My sympathies go out to the family of the man that died.
A car crash on Third Street and Palm Avenue in the early morning hours over the weekend left three men severely injured, one in critical condition, and hospitalized. A 19-year old man, was speeding on Third Street when he lost control, hit the curb and flipped over – landing on the roof.
Two men were able to climb out of the car, but the third one was trapped inside. The two men called for help; fire department personnel, after removing a door, were able to get the third man out.
The accident is being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team. They believe alcohol is a factor in the accident.

A Dodge SRT vehicle crossed the center divider on Highway 18 the other day, crashing head-on into a Nissan Sentra, seriously injuring the driver, and killing a 57-year old passenger. A third vehicle, traveling about 40 feet behind the Nissan, could not stop fast enough to avoid the Nissan, according to San Bernardino Police. The driver of the third car and his wife were not injured, although their vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage. The driver of the Dodge SRT, and his passenger, were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. According to authorities, The driver of the Dodge SRT is either facing felony or misdemeanor manslaughter charges. It is considered felony charges if the District Attorney can prove gross negligence on his part. Authorities are certain reckless driving was involved because of excessive speed, but are not sure if street racing was involved.
A few months ago, a terrible accident occurred on the corner of Del Rosa Avenue and Date Place. The intersection has three gas stations and is close to the 210 Freeway entrance. A driver ran into a motorcyclist, which caused the motorcyclist to fly about 50 feet into the air and broke his leg. The San Bernardino Police Department, after collecting accident data for over five years, determined that this intersection is the most dangerous in the city.
The Police Department received a grant from The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program to fix this problem. New radar equipment and special patrol operations should now be able to catch red-light violators and other traffic offenders, including speeders. The causes for these accidents include illegal turns, speeding and right-of-way violations. Right turns are not allowed from Date to Del Rosa on a red light. However, many drivers ignore the signs. The Police pull over many drivers every day for violations.
