Most people are taught at a very early age to look both ways before crossing the street.
Still, many accidents happen between an automobile and a person on foot. When this happens, the victim has absolutely no protection and absorbs the full impact of the collision.
As a result, a pedestrian accident can be very devastating, leading to life-altering injuries or death.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, approximately 5,000 pedestrians die in motor vehicle accidents every year in the United States. In addition, more than 70,000 pedestrians endure severe injuries when struck by an automobile.
If you have sustained injuries while crossing the road on foot, contact a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will protect your rights and have your best interests in mind.

A wrongful death happens because of another person’s negligence or actions. A wrongful death lawsuit is a claim against that person who may be liable for the death.
Most cases are filed by a close relative. California law provides for financial damages to be recovered. These include all financial support, past and future, provided by the decedent before death, funeral and burial expenses. Non-economic damages, such as the loss of your loved one’s companionship, love and affection can also be recovered.
If you have lost a family member because of someone else’s actions, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney regarding your options.
Depending on the nature of the case, California law states that a wrongful death action must be filed within two years of the date of the death – other time periods apply to other cases. Your attorney will know how long you have to file.

Doctors, nurses and health care professionals are held to the highest standard of care for patient safety in diagnosis and treatment. However, mistakes are sometimes made. Has your doctor failed you?
When a health care provider fails to meet those standards, a patient may suffer an injury as a result. Mistakes are sometimes made when there is a misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, medication error, and infections arising after surgery, a birth injury and being sent home too soon – to name just a few examples.
It is not easy to prove malpractice and suing your doctor is not an easy process.
If you suffered serious complications because of medical negligence, contact a San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who has successfully represented victims in medical malpractice cases by negotiating settlements for injury, expenses and pain and suffering.

A 54-year old Yucca Valley woman trying to cross a road in the evening hours was killed.
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s office reported that at least two vehicles, possibly three, struck her before she was killed. In addition, they stated that not only was she walking along a dark stretch of the highway, but she was also wearing dark-colored clothing.
The first vehicle to hit her was driven by a 71-year old man who told investigators that she just walked out in front of his SUV. In a second vehicle, a 39-year old man reported that he did not see the victim and ran over her. Witnesses reported that a third vehicle hit her, but the car continued on without stopping. This has not been confirmed as yet.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is investigating. A 56-year old man crossing an Ontario Street recently was killed after being hit by an SUV.
A news report indicates that the man, who had been driving a big-rig, stopped, parked his truck and attempted to cross the street at an intersection with a two-way stop sign when the accident happened.
California Vehicle Code Section 21950 states, “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.” It continues with, “The driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk shall exercise all due care and shall reduce the speed of a vehicle or take any other action relating to the operating of the vehicle as necessary to safeguard the safety of the pedestrian.”
The 56-year old man was taken to a local hospital where he died several days later. The accident is under investigation to determine why this man was struck and killed. If it is determined that the driver did not stop at the stop sign or failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian, he or she can be held liable for the man’s wrongful death.
If you are injured or a family member is killed because of a driver’s negligence, you should contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will make sure the negligent party is held responsible

A trucker involved in a chain-reaction accident on Interstate 15 last year will begin a nine-month jail sentence this month after pleading guilty to four misdemeanor counts of vehicular manslaughter.
The accident took place when an SUV with a family of four was stuck between two tractor-trailer trucks in stop-and-go traffic. The crash caused one of the trucks and the SUV to be engulfed in flames, killing the entire family.
The trucker said the crash happened so quickly; he had no time to do anything to avoid it due to the freeway construction all around him. He stated that he was not on his cell phone and he was not on drugs. He suffered burns to his hands, arm and face while trying to save one of the passengers of the SUV.
If a family member is killed in an accident as a result of a negligent driver, contact an experienced San Bernardino Personal Injury attorney who will investigate your case to determine if you are entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit and receive compensation for your loss and expenses.

Two lives were taken recently by a hit-and-run driver in Victorville.
A 34-year old mother, her 11-year old daughter, and 8-year old son, were driving along Highway 395 the other afternoon when a pickup truck turned left directly in front of them. The woman lost control of her vehicle, causing her to crash into a telephone pole.
The mother and daughter suffered fatal injuries and the son was airlifted to a nearby trauma center. The pickup truck driver fled the scene, but was later arrested by police for suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and-run causing death and injury.
According to California Vehicle Code Section 23152(a), “Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is illegal. Drivers whose act of driving under the influence results in the death of another will likely face vehicular manslaughter charges.” In addition, he violated California Vehicle Code Section 20001(a) for leaving the scene of an accident without stopping.
