Each year almost 5 million people are bitten by dogs in the United States.

You may remember about three children, ages 8, 7 and 5 years old, who were mauled by 5 dogs in Fontana last year.  Well, justice has been served for the injuries caused to those children – the owners will serve four years and four months in a California state prison.

The trial was very emotional as the incident was discussed again.  A mother and her children were attacked by 5 dogs as they walked along the railroad tracks in Fontana last year.  The dogs, one of which was almost 100 pounds, were Mastiff and Pit Bull mixes – they escaped their backyard through holes they dug underneath a fence.

The 5-year old girl suffered critical injuries to her face, head, chest, legs and neck when big chunks of flesh were torn from her body, exposing her ribs and puncturing her lungs. The 7-year old boy required more than 200 stitches to close the wounds he sustained.

Statistics show that close to one million Americans are in need of medical attention every year because of dog bite attacks – more than 50% of these victims are young children. The Center for Disease Control indicated that from January to June 2010, there have been 16 fatal dog attacks – 14 of these cases were family dog attacks.

The most dangerous dogs are the Pit Bull, Rottweiler and Siberian Huskie.  Recently, two incidents were reported in San Bernardino – a 3-year old and a 2-year old – attacked by family Pit Bulls.  For additional information, visit http://www.lawondogbites.com
